City and Watershed District Team up to Reduce Flooding
In an effort to reduce the chances of major flooding, the city of Albert Lea and the Shell Rock River Watershed District (SRRWD) have teamed up.
The city council approved a joint powers agreement to allow the SRRWD to build a storm water basin south of the city transfer station. The agreement was necessary because the city owns the land.
The project will consist of building an approximately 20-acre basin to funnel the water from the Stables area instead of going into Fountain Lake.
