Salt Water to Control Milfoil
If you notice a decrease in the water level at Twin Lakes — despite this week’s drizzly weather — it’s because the City and Borough of Juneau’s Parks and Recreation Department and the Alaska Department of Fish & Game are draining the lakes to control milfoil, an invasive aquatic weed.

The lakes are drained annually and filled with salt water, which controls milfoil without using herbicides.

Wisconsin’s Phosphorus Trading - The United States Environmental Agency (EPA) has approved Wisconsin’s revised rule to curb phosphorus pollution. The program is aimed at reducing phosphorus levels in the Great Lakes and Wisconsin’s inland waters, which accelerates algae and plant growth.
