Aquatic Invasive Species Grant for Waukesha County
Waukesha County recently announced the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has approved a three-year grant aimed to prevent or slow the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS) in county lakes and streams.

The grant will fund public invasive species education and identification programs through 2019 in order to protect and improve local water quality, recreational opportunities and shoreline property values.

Excessive Nutrients Damaging Great Lakes Region - Soupy blue-green algae blooms in the Great Lakes is an ominous sign of suffering water quality that poses health risks for pe3ople who depend on the lakes for drinking water, food, and recreation, according to a U.S. – Canadian report. Excessive levels of nutrients such as phosphorus are producing some of the worst cases of eutrophication – runaway growth of algae and other aquatic plants – since the 1970’s.
