Motorboat Limits Supported by Hales Corners Panel for Kelly Lake
Banning motorboats from using the only public access to Upper Kelly Lake permanent has been recommended to the Hales Corners Village Board by its environmental committee.
The committee supports keeping access for canoes, kayaks and other boats that can be carried in.
In the draft of a letter from the environmental committee to the village board, the committee writes: "Experts believe trailered boats with gas-operated watered-cooled engines pose the greatest risk for the spread of starry stonewort." That is because engines have cooling reservoirs where the algae can hide.
