Swedish University Marine Biologists Show How the Plastics Industry is Leaking Microplastics
In a recent study published by University of Gothenburg, Sweden, researchers investigated how pellets have spread in a coastal region of western Sweden.

Small plastic pellets are used as raw materials. The pellets are shipped from the manufacturing site to different plants where they are used in production of various types of plastic goods.

The study discovered that the plastic pellets which end up on nearby beaches, in fjords and around the nearby archipelago and are often found in the stomachs of seabirds, which feed from the surface of the sea.

Group Aims to Slow Watershed's Fertilizer Runoff - UW-Extension created a farmer-led council that engages in conservation efforts to slow the amount of phosphorus running through the watershed into Tainter Lake and Lake Menomin. Some of these efforts include farmers increasing their organic matter in soil, keeping cover crops on soil and reducing tillage.
