Ban on Use of Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides in Dal Lake
The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on called for a blanket ban on the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in Dal Lake. The direction was passed in view of a fresh report suggesting that usage of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in farming had badly deteriorated the health of the lake.

The Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) is already under court directions to take measures for saving Dal Lake, but untreated sewerage is still pumped directly into the lake besides open drainages making their way into the lake waters.

Massive Declines in Crooked River Fish Populations - The 2016 Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife annual electro shocking survey of fish populations in the upper Wild & Scenic section of the Crooked River revealed that, during the past year, the wild redband trout population suffered a catastrophic 86.4 percent reduction in numbers while the native mountain whitefish mortality was an alarming 45.3 percent.
