Discovery of Endangered Mussels Curtails Milfoil Control Program
The discovery of endangered mussels in much of the Okanagan could have a severe impact on future beach quality throughout the region.

Rocky Mountain ridged mussels were found in the Vernon arm of Okanagan Lake, and subsequent surveys have found the native species all the way south to Osoyoos.

Winter harvesting of milfoil lake weeds has been halted in several areas while the water board awaits a permit from the province and new regulations to protect the mussels.

Mandatory AIS Training in Minnesota - Minnesota Waters has partnered with the MN Department of Natural Resources to provide mandatory Aquatic Invasive Species training for Lake Service Providers (those who, for hire, install or remove water-related equipment or structures from waters in the state of Minnesota). The new, mandatory, AIS training for Lake Service Providers will be held at various locations across the state. The seminars will provide all participants with DNR certification on best management practices to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species.
