Cleaning Up the Anacostia River
Flotsam and Jetsam are terms referring to useless or discarded objects. However, Aquarius Systems and D.C. Water know Flotsam & Jetsam are valuable tools to combat the floating debris on the Anacostia River and Potomac Rivers.
The Anacostia and Potomac Rivers are an important part of the culture in the District of Columbia and two skimmer boats, designed to collect trash and litter, help play a crucial role in the ongoing efforts to ensure the rivers are fishable and swimmable for generations to come.
DC Water pioneered the skimmer boat cleaning process back in 1992. The program has been an enormous success, with 300-500 tons of trash removed from the waterways of the District of Columbia every year.

Connecticut's Clean Water Legislation
- Excessive phosphorus is the main factor contributing to the decline of Connecticut’s lakes and ponds. High levels of phosphorus lead to excessive algae and aquatic plant growth, reduced water clarity and depleted oxygen levels – all detrimental to the health of these water bodies and the fish and humans who depend on them.
