Boat Inspections Prevent Aquatic Weed Invasions
The Damariscotta Lake Watershed Association (DLWA) and the Pemaquid Watershed Association (PWA) are partnering to offer free courtesy boat inspection training courses to anyone interested in keeping Damariscotta Lake and Pemaquid-area ponds clear of invasive aquatic plants.

With completion of the course, the associations hope that the attendees will volunteer at area boat launches throughout the summer to conduct inspections at local boat launches. This is a front line defense to prevent the invasion of unwanted plants and weeds.

Prevention is the most effective way to control the spread of the invasive aquatic weeds.

Delavan Lake Dredging Clears Natural Filter - In the late 1980s, Delavan Lake turned into an algae soup by mid-summer that discouraged swimming, clogged boat motors and killed off game fish. Farm and residential development around the lake poured nutrient-rich runoff into the watershed and into the lake. Those nutrients fed the algae blooms. Today, a project to redredge the channel in the narrow inlet which was designed to store and collect the sediment flowing into it before it reaches the open water.
