Algae Blooms Return to Lake Champlain
As steamy weather descended on Vermont, Lake Champlain users and scientists awaited test results to learn whether last week’s blue-green algae blooms have persisted in spots along Burlington, Missisquoi, and St. Albans bays.
Although the blooms, which can product potentially dangerous toxins, test samples were well below levels of concern, the Health Department warned lake users, especially children and pets, because they are more likely to swallow water when swimming, to avoid areas with dense amounts of algae.
