Will Illinois Join the Ranks to Prevent the Spread of AIS
Invasive species, such as eurasian water milfoil and zebra mussels, have invaded Loon Lake in Lake County, Illinois as well as several other waterbodies across the state.  Legislation sponsored by Rep Joann Osmond would require boaters to clean off their boats after use to prevent the spread of invasive plants and animals to other lakes.  Wisconsin, Michigan, and Indiana have already enacted similar laws in recent years.

The plan, if it becomes a law would apply to all bodies of water in Illinois and the police can make a person clean off his/her boat, but the proposed law specifies no penalty for refusing.
