Aquarius Systems Aquatic Weed Harvesting Seminar

The Aquatic Plant Harvester seminar was a great success! We had over 80 people representing 33 organizations from six states attend.

The morning session had three talks: One on safety; a harvesting program case study; and an aquatic plant identification class conducted by the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources. They had live weeds to examine along with plants that were dried and mounted.

After a nice luncheon the afternoon session moved to our factory where the attendees broke into small groups and rotated through seven stations in 30 minute increments to learn about maintenance and repairs.

The program was well received by the participants and we will probably do this again sometime next spring.

Chemical Promotes Dangerous Algae Blooms - Wisconsin is not fully enforcing strict phosphorus limits adopted two years ago to reduce lake-algae blooms that make people sick. The state Legislature in 2010 approved DNR regulations intended to cut down on the amount of phosphorus running into waterways, where it causes algae to grow so thick that the water turns to green soup. The regulations are aimed at wastewater treatment plants, paper mills and factories – which are required to reapply for permits at five-year intervals.
