Roberts Bay – A Success Story
Roberts Bay is located in the Sarasota Bay-Peace-Myakka River watershed in northwest Sarasota County, Florida. Roberts Bay is designated for recreation contains a healthy, well-balanced population of fish and wildlife. The 65 square mile watershed land use is predominantly residential (50%), but also has urban (17%) and 11% agricultural (11%) land use too.

In 1998 Roberts Bay was listed as a waterway with nutrient impairment in accordance with the Clean Water Act. Key sources of nutrients included four domestic wastewater treatment facilities as well as ground water discharge, ground water seepage, septic systems, and surface water runoff.

In 2010, Roberts Bay was removed from Florida’s impaired waters list.
