Reopening of the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge

After being closed for nearly a year, the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge on the Milwaukee River is once again open.
Originally built in 1975, this vertical lift bridge over the Milwaukee River was closed for nearly a year while the bridge was re-built which will extend the life of the bridge by 45 years. Renovation of the 37 year old bridge was needed due to the harsh river environments and the deterioration of steel components. Construction crews rebuilt structural, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical components, as well as new decking railings, sidewalk and bridge approaches, and upgrading the bridge house.
