Reopening of the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge

After being closed for nearly a year, the Wisconsin Avenue Bridge on the Milwaukee River is once again open.

Originally built in 1975, this vertical lift bridge over the Milwaukee River was closed for nearly a year while the bridge was re-built which will extend the life of the bridge by 45 years. Renovation of the 37 year old bridge was needed due to the harsh river environments and the deterioration of steel components. Construction crews rebuilt structural, electrical, hydraulic and mechanical components, as well as new decking railings, sidewalk and bridge approaches, and upgrading the bridge house.

Hot Weather and Toxic Algae Lead to Fish Kill at Lago Santa Margarita - The outbreak of a toxic bacteria that last week killed bass, bluegill and carp at the city’s landmark lake has been brought under control, according to the lake’s owner. Fishing at picturesque Lago Santa Margarita has been banned since Thursday after dead fish were found floating on the surface. Other recreational activities have not been affected.
