Algal Blooms Close Sydney Beach
Hot and humid weather are key ingredients in algal blooms, which have closed Bondi Beach in Sydney. Sydney Water is fairly confident the bloom had not been caused from pollution or sewage, but it is still testing for fecal coliforms.
Without further testing, it is uncertain whether the algal bloom was dangerous to humans; a skin irritant or cause of eye infections. The beach closed signs and red water have not stopped everyone from enjoying the beach and water though; swimmers and surfers ventured into the water and children played in the near the water’s edge.
