Residents Complain of Breathing Problems from Algae
Residents surrounding Sunshine Lake located in Port Charlotte, Florida have been complaining for years about the state of their lake. Algae, as much as 7 feet deep in some areas is the cause of an awful stench in the area, but residents wonder if chest pains and blurry vision are a side effect to breathing in the aerosols produced by the thick green mats.
While test results have shown that the blue-green algae on the lake is not releasing toxins, and a multimillion-dollar project to dredge the lake to rid it of the algae will move forward.
