The Ocean Cleanup Project
Boyan Slat, a 19-year-old engineering student, is behind The Ocean Cleanup project, which he proposes to clean up the plastic clogging the planet’s major bodies of water in five years.

Slat proposes setting a large garbage-sifting machine in the middle of the ocean to trap and collect millions of tons of plastic. Theoretically the ocean currents would push large patches of the debris into the boat’s floating booms.
