Barrage of Chemicals Found in Minnesota Waters
Minnesota researchers found 56 chemicals were detected in 47 out of 50 Minnesota lakes that were tested. Although found in trace amounts, these chemicals raise questions about potential impacts on wildlife and human health.

Cocaine was found in samples from a third of the state’s lakes. Another common find was carbadox, an antibiotic approved for use only on swine. This antibiotic was found in 28 percent of the lakes and the “perplexing” part is that many of the carbadox detections were nowhere near swine or other livestock facilities.

Bay’s Intersex Fish Mystery Remains Unsolved - Over the past decade, wildlife biologists have probed the Chesapeake Bay region trying to determine why between 50 and 100 percent of bass in various locations are intersex and pesticides may be at fault, but lack of data on the type and quantity of pesticides that run into the bay from farms are leaving biologists with less than ample information.
