Texas Boaters Must Pass Education Course
To be certified to use their boats in Texas, individuals must take a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department boating education course. The department certifies about 12,000 individuals a year.

Legislation passed this spring aims to increase awareness among Texas boaters about how to prevent the spread of the mussels and other invasive species. The new legislation adds text questions on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species to existing courses.

Mother Nature Spreading Aquatic Invasive Species - Humans are the biggest culprit when it comes to spreading aquatic invasive species, but Mother Nature is also impacting that spread. The U.S. Army Corp of Engineers annual budget for controlling invasive aquatic plants has grown from $124 million in 2008 to $135 million in 2012.
