North Lake Gets County Approval for Operating Aquatic Weed Harvester


Waukesha County has approved a new weed harvesting program for North Lake Residents.

The North Lake Management District has partnered with the Evergreen Condominiums to begin a weed cutting and disposal program for the lake, which is suffering navigational and odor problems due to accelerated weed growth.

The aquatic plant harvester will be used to clear access channels and bays of weeds, algae and surface debris. The harvester will also collect aquatic weeds that residents have picked up from their shorelines and piled on their docks.

Late Winter Thaw and Cool Spring Slow Aquatic Plant Growth - This year’s late winter thaw and cool spring weather have slowed the growth of aquatic plants in northeast Indiana lakes. This should, according to DNR officials, delay and may even reduce the need to use chemical herbicides to control vegetation in lakes where there are such issues.
