North Lake Gets County Approval for Operating Aquatic Weed Harvester


Waukesha County has approved a new weed harvesting program for North Lake Residents.

The North Lake Management District has partnered with the Evergreen Condominiums to begin a weed cutting and disposal program for the lake, which is suffering navigational and odor problems due to accelerated weed growth.

The aquatic plant harvester will be used to clear access channels and bays of weeds, algae and surface debris. The harvester will also collect aquatic weeds that residents have picked up from their shorelines and piled on their docks.

Curly Leaf Pond Weed Could Cause Problems on Iowa Great Lakes - The presence of curly leaf pond weed and other aquatic plants is an indicator of excellent water quality in the lakes. According to Hawkins, water quality in most of the Iowa Great Lakes is the best it has been in the past couple of decades, based on monitoring. The weed can be mechanically removed, along with other vegetation from around docks and boat hoists.
