Lake Improvement Districts Established to Combat Invasive Species
Big Fish Lake doesn’t have Eurasian milfoil, zebra mussels or other aquatic invasive species plaguing many Minnesota lakes, and its residents want to keep it that way.

To prevent an infestation in the 558-acre lake between Cold Spring and Avon, the Big Fish Lake Association has been conducting boat inspections at the public landing to catch potential invaders and educate lake users.

Now, some Big Fish residents want to create an unusual form of local government called a lake improvement district to raise funds to help pay for those inspections.
