Winter Lovers Want More Ice on Lake Hopatcong
For years lakefront property owners used bubblers to keep keep dangerous ice away from docks and other structures within Lake Hopatcong.  Now, with the addition of much easier and quieter propeller systems, more homeowners are using these devices to protect their structures from the ice.

However, excessive use of these "ice eaters" are leaving large swaths of ice removed which is posing a threat to skaters, ice fisherman and hockey players.  The large open areas also allow more sunlight can penetrate the water which results in more severe weeds during the next season.

While the Lake Hopatcong Commission does not want to regulate people, but the are looking at an ice retardant system ordiance in order to keep everyone safe and to protect the quality of the lake.
