Wisconsin's Lack of Algae Bloom Information on its 15,000 Lakes
Algae blooms can be dangerous, but there is no system that captures the total picture of algal blooms in Wisconsin's 15,000 lakes, according to a new study.

The analysis, which was conducted by the Environmental Working Group, showed that Wisconsin, Iowa and Minnesota all lack sufficient testing programs for cyanobacteria. 

To allow for more data collection, residents should advocate for lawmakers to put more money in the budget for testing and tracking algae blooms. Without funding, nothing can be done to keep people safe or prevent new blooms.

Ohio Tough on Invasive Species Issues - People who dump quagga mussels, snakeheads and other invasive species into Ohio's waterways would face criminal penalties, under legislation being considered in the Ohio House. HB 396 would prohibit the possession, sale or introduction of quagga and zebra mussels, rusty crayfish, snakeheads and certain carp, among other species.
