Floating Islands to Stop Coastal Erosion
The America’s WETLAND Foundation, established in Louisiana and working throughout the Gulf region, was founded in 2002 in response to the need to alert the nation to the devastating loss of Louisiana’s coastal wetlands and how their loss impacts the rest of the nation.

In conjunction with other organizations, hundreds of volunteers will pant each five-by-eight island with between 40 and 60 native plants. The islands will then be anchored end-to-end for 1,500 feet next to remaining marshes. The plants will set roots into the water bottoms, forming traps for land-building sediments.
